"Prayer Pattern"
HOME
Relationship ---“Father”--- Prayer begins with a time of focusing on God as our
heavenly Father and consciously entering His presence.

Worship ---“Hallowed be your Name”--- Prayer is a time to set our minds and hearts on
the nature of God and give Him praise and thanksgiving for who He is and what He does.

Intervention ---“Your kingdom come…”--- In prayer we have been given the privilege of
appropriating God’s intervention in our lives. As we relinquish our self-will to His will, we
can pray that the realities of His kingdom would influence our personal lives, our families,
our children, our nation, and the world.

Provision ---“Give us this day…”--- With Christ as the highest priority of our lives we are
able to pray with confidence for God’s provision.  During prayer we set before the Father
our needs, our desires, and all sources of anxiety in our lives.

Forgiveness ---“Forgive us our sins…”--- Prayer is a time of getting honest with God.  It
is a time to wrestle with our flaws and failures and allow the grace of God to touch our
lives with the cleansing work of Christ.  In prayer we can take a fearless moral inventory
of our lives and get back on track with God’s will and His plans.

Protection ---“Lead us not…deliver us…”--- Living a Spiritual life is a battle.  We need
protection from our own susceptibility to temptation and also from the hostile spiritual
forces that seek ot harm us.  In prayer we can appropriate the leading of the Holy Spirit
and the protection of the Father.

Affirmation ---“Yours is the kingdom…”--- We close our time of prayer with a series of
affirmations regarding God’s sovereign authority over our lives.

Prayer Examples

Acknowledging our need: Father, I am spiritually powerless, and apart from Your divine
intervention in my life I do not have the ability to be who You would have me to be (John
15:5). “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears
much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”

Affirming God’s Power: Father, You are all-powerful. Only You have the ability to enable
me to become who You would have me to be (Philippians 4:13). “I can do all things
through Christ who strengthens me.”

Tapping into the Power: Holy Spirit, I need You to fill my life today with Your presence
and power.  Live the live of Christ in and through me today (Ephesians 5:18). “And do
not be drunk with wine in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.”

Maintaining Christ’s Lordship: Lord Jesus, I willingly relinquish the throne of my life
and invite You to once again take control as Lord of my life (1 Peter 3:15). “But sanctify
the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who
asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;”

Experiencing Spiritual Cleansing: Lord Jesus, I am a sinner constantly in need of Your
grace and the experience of Your forgiveness.  Help me be honest with You today.  I will
confess, repent, and make restitution where appropriate (1 John 1:9). “If we confess our
sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.”

Growing in Christ: I will seek through prayer, Bible study, and fellowship to improve my
relationship with Christ. On a daily basis I will seek to know and to do the will of God (1
Peter 2:2). “As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow
thereby.”

Serving the Kingdom: Lord Jesus, by your grace and with Your help I will seek to be
Your witness in my house, in my neighborhood, in my workplace, and in the world. Live
Your life through me today. (Acts 1:8). “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit
has come upon you; and shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and
Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
